Helping Psoriasis
Psoriasis affects a great many people worldwide. There are numerous psoriasis associations, books, articles, creams, lotions and potions. Those of you that suffer from this condition know exactly how debilitating, annoying and embarrassing it can be.
The first thing that you have to understand is that Psoriasis is NOT an external condition. No amount of lotions, creams and applications will truly “get rid” of Psoriasis. All they do is “mask” the condition temporarily for it to re-surface there or elsewhere. Of course, say you do this and the underlying conditions (more below) are also removed (on purpose or by accident) then the condition may not re-surface.
There are lots of theories as to the causes of Psoriasis. The main thing that can be agreed on is that traditional medicine CANNOT effectively treat i.e. permanently get rid of Psoriasis. So while you go to your doctor and they may well give you something to reduce the itching or heal the skin temporarily, this is not a “cure”. If anything, they may make you worse as the creams usually contain corticosteroids which can not only thin the skin but can also make the body reduce its own production of anti-inflammatories.
Certain things definitely trigger Psoriasis. Many people refer to foods like potatoes, tomatoes and so one. While these may trigger Psoriasis, there are some foods which “definitely” make Psoriasis appear/worse.
The anti-psoriasis diet
I would suggest you stop consumption of all wheat and all gluten products. This means all bread (normal wheat/derivatives of bread), all wheat pasta, Rye (gluten) and Oats (gluten). Basically look out for anything that contains wheat or gluten, which these days is a hell of a lot of foods. Read labels. You can find wheat in some unusual stuff such as rice sushi (where you would never expect) or sauces and so on.
It is suggested for you to stay on this wheat/gluten free diet until you start seeing some results. That’s the bad news for many of you. The good news is that you will almost INSTANTLY start seeing results if you truly stick to the diet. If you totally cut wheat and gluten from your diet, you will start seeing your psoriasis patches shrinking and disappearing by themselves.
I know this sounds strange as Psoriasis patches rarely disappear by themselves but I can assure you that this wheat/gluten free diet is one of the surest ways of achieving this. Try it.
Other foods which should definitely be avoided are pastry (obviously as it has wheat and gluten), chocolate, sweets and junk foods. These will have to be eliminated to see proper results.
Remember, if you have cut out all wheat and gluten but are eating 2-3 chocolate bars a day, then you are not doing yourself any good.
Another “possible” Psoriasis trigger is dairy products. I say this as they are a trigger for most but not all people. To be on the safe side, I would suggest that you avoid milk, cheese, yoghurt and butter for a while. Eggs “can” also be a trigger. With these foods, you may want to experiment and see if you get any better by avoiding them.
Fizzy drinks, alcohol and greasy foods are not recommended to Psoriasis sufferers.
I know that this all sounds like a lot of things to avoid and I understand that some of you may have tried several diets before with no luck. The thing is that you need to keep trying until you come across the diet that works for you.
The no wheat/no gluten diet is 80% of the way there. You really will see benefits if you stick to it. You should see benefits within a few days really but to get the best results you may have to follow it for at least 6 months.
Other factors that affect Psoriasis
Stress is a big contributor to Psoriasis. Try and avoid it. I know it is easier said than done but we all have a choice in life. You can choose to get angry or stressed or you can choose to calm down a bit and not get worked up.
Don’t let your emotions control you. Angry/negative emotions will only make your Psoriasis worse, so try and avoid them. You will read more about stress and how to handle it in other sections of this forum. For now, I can just tell you to relax. Don’t get upset and angry over silly things.
Lack of water and dryness of the skin are not good for Psoriasis. In other words, drink 2-3 litres of water daily (pure water not juices) and if your skin is overly dry, put some creams on it. Don’t put un-natural creams on it. Olive oil, vitamin E, Sesame oil are all good.
A vegetarian diet full of greens, salads, vegetables, fruits and essential fatty acids is very good for Psoriasis. If you can do it, try substituting meat proteins for vegetable proteins and supplement with a good oil full of essential fatty acids.

Here is a very promising update for you.
1. Take 2-3 Turmeric capsules, 3 times a day.
2. Take 2-4 Slippery Elm Bark Capsules at lunch and 2-4 before bed time.
3. Carry on with any creams such as Dovonex etc
