Night time remedies for beating a cold
Do you feel a cold coming on?
If you pay attention, sometimes you may feel a cold coming on. This usually happens at night and you may start sweating and/or shivering. This is one of the best times to try and avoid/reverse a cold. Of course, if you have reached this stage, it means that you have not been taking care of your body and you are going downhill as it were.
Night-time remedies
If you are sweating or shivering, keep warm. Unless if you have a temperature, it is a good idea to keep the covers on and keep sweating. If your clothes are really wet, change them and get back into bed. Wet clothes are a definite no-no. However, sweating in itself is not a bad thing. Do not allow any cold air under the covers. Make sure you are hot and sweating away.
Drink lots of water during the night. You need to press against some acupoints which will be tender or blocked. Put your index finger or thumb on these and press gently, then firmly with a very slight clockwise rotation (not moving your finger from the point). Breathe deeply through the abdomen. In particular you need to work on the:
Kidneys:
You also need to put some firm pressure using your fingers on any areas that may be tender or problematic. i.e. if you feel your sinuses are getting blocked, then you need to put pressure on them.
If you feel your throat region is getting blocked, then you need to put pressure here:
Put your big toe over your next toe and squeeze. This is good for unblocking the nasal area:
Do not start over-blowing your nose. If it is running, then gently blow it in a handkerchief ideally - or tissues but remember that normal tissues can be quite irritating for the nose.
Do not start brining phlegm up into your mouth as this can spread infection.
In the morning and during the day make sure you drink lots of the following:
Tea+honey+lemon/lime
Make 1 mug of tea, add 1-2 tea-spoonfuls of honey and 1 teaspoonful of lemon or lime. Drink as hot as possible. This is a great drink for getting rid of colds. It needs to be more sweet that tangy so pay attention to adding more honey than lemon.
