Reversing & halting hair loss
Hair loss is one of the most “unfair” conditions to affect people. Of course one can say that any problem is “unfair”! Hair loss is particularly unfair as it seems so random! One minute you have hair and the next minute for seemingly no reason you have none!!!
Can anything truly be done about hair loss? I would say yes. Why would I say this, you ask? Because I have seen various methods work very well in reversing hair loss.
As with most things, the results you see will very much depend on the effort you put in. This is VERY important and if you intend to read on, you must promise to APPLY the principles below for at least 6 months to see results.
What causes hair loss?
Genetics, diet, stress, hormones, circulation, shampoos, cleanliness and many other factors. The good news is that many of them can be controlled and manipulated to help you keep your hair.
Marriage can make your hair go (stress!). Lack of exercise can make it go (circulation). Bad diet can make it go (poor circulation, no vitamins/minerals), aggression can make it disappear (too much testosterone production) and so on.
Can hair loss really be stopped?
I would say a definite yes. I would even go as far as to say hair loss can be reversed. You can be assured that I have nothing to gain by saying this. I am not going to follow it with an advert for a new shampoo! ïŠ
It is important for you to find out why you are losing your hair. Sometimes this can be difficult. It may truly be a genetic thing but you see, genetic pre-dispositions may not necessarily come into play unless the right triggers are there.
So as a great help for yourself, try and remember when it was that you “really” started noticing your hair going. That will aid in getting you to concentrate more on that side of things. So for example, if you think it is stress related (death of a loved one as an example), then you will want to work more on that “psychology” side of things. This can be by meditation, counselling, Bach flower remedies and so on.
Ways to stop hair loss
Rubbing your fingernails together
The SINGLE MOST EFFECTIVE thing you can do for hair loss is to rub your fingernails together vigorously for at least 30 minutes a day. I mean “vigorously” and I mean “all” fingernails, including the thumb. Imagine that you are polishing them against each other. Do it hard enough to hear it.
You don’t have to do it for 30 minutes all at once. You can do 5 minutes, here, 10 minutes there and so on. I will warn you that members of your family may want to put you off or think that you are going mad. Ignore them. Do you want hair or not? Just do this and stick at it for at least 6 months.
The nerve endings for your hair follicles are underneath your fingernails. Rubbing them together vigorously for 30 minutes (or more) a day will stimulate new growth. I have seen this time and time again and it really works. Unfortunately, I have also seen 90% of people give up within the first week or so with remarks such as “oh, it doesn’t work” or “I haven’t seen new hair and everyone thinks I’m going mad”.
Hair loss is not an overnight thing, so hair re-growth is not going to be overnight either. Be persistent, patient and determined and you will see results.
The surest and quickest (and cheapest) way of seeing new hair growth is rubbing your fingernails together vigorously every day. Just try it and see for yourself. Many people see even new hair growth on previously bald areas.
Do you have to continue doing it? Well, it depends on the person. Some people see results and don’t have to do it again for years. Others have to keep doing it. It really depends on the person and how much hair growth they want.
Anti-testosterone diet
Now this one may not sound so good as the diet can change certain other things but it works. Many men who lose their hair do so due to the hormone Testosterone turning to di-hydrotestosterone.
One sure way of minimising hair loss is to reduce your testosterone levels. The reason why I say this may not be good for all is that reducing testosterone can have other effects, such as a loss in sex drive, muscle mass, confidence and aggression.
So while you may keep your hair, you may have less sex drive! It is a balance and you have to monitor and adjust accordingly.
Reduce your intake of zinc-producing foods such as red meats, poultry, nuts and seeds shellfish and oysters (if that’s on your menu!).
Don’t take any zinc supplements or testosterone boosting supplements in any shape or form.
Replace cow’s milk with the more estrogen-producing soy milk and try and eat more soy products.
Exercise
Blood circulation and exercising are crucial to new hair growth, especially if it is caused by bad circulation.
Aerobic exercise such as jogging, rowing, cycling and so on are best. They increase heart rate and get the circulation going. Dancing is good too.
While this may sound unconventional, hanging upside down can also be good for scalp circulation. Make sure you don’t get a headache when you do this and if you do, stop.
Massaging the scalp can also be very good for hair loss. Make sure hands are clean and that you do not suffer from any scalp problems such as dermatitis.
Garlic tablets and even Aspirin are good for the circulation too. L-Arginine is an amino acid which is a nitric oxide booster and also very good for ciculation.
Shampoos
I honestly believe that the majority of the shampoos out there are rubbish and extremely detrimental to the health of your scalp. Don’t be fooled by names like “herbal” or “organics” or “nature” and so on.
Most shampoos today contain the sodium laureth sulphate substance which is actually an irritant for the skin.
Many conditions such as scalp eczema and dermatitis are made worse (or even caused by) these shampoos.
Yes, you do need to wash your hair regularly but you also need to make sure that you are not putting an irritant on it every day.
Choose a shampoo that has washing and cleansing agents but that has a balanced pH and does not contain irritants.
Once again, I don’t want to make other companies money by plugging their products but when something is good and effective, then it is silly not to point it out to you, especially if it can be of help.
The most useful shampoo I have found out there is one called Zeal. This shampoo is truly a wonder product and very good for the scalp, especially if you suffer from problems with flaking of the scalp.
Try a shampoo with no lauryth sulphate but failing that, give Zeal a go. Read more about them at www.noflakes.com
